Voices From the Line - March 2026 - Week 1

This week’s featured call comes from a caller who has a 17-year-old houseguest (not related) who needs a little help.

The 17 year old would like to take the test for their GED (General Equivalency Diploma = high school diploma) so they can apply for SOLACC, but also needs temporary food assistance and instructions on how to apply for SNAP when they turn 18.  They would also need resources for tuition assistance and transportation assistance so they are able to attend the community college and learn a trade to help them to become independent.

Wow.  Here is a young person who wants to take advantage of the existing programs for exactly their intended purpose – to help them become self-reliant, and we were happy to help.  Over the course of a 23-minute phone call, we were able to connect them with resources for transportation, tuition assistance, GED support, emergency food as well as direct them to the application for SNAP.

We are wishing this young person the best possible outcomes in life.
