Voices from the Line
Many times, the person calling 232-Help is calling on behalf of someone else - either someone they love like an uncle, daughter, spouse, or they are in a professional role - social worker, nurse or police officer and they are calling on behalf of someone they may have just met. Today’s story highlights this scenario where a loved one called 232-Help (337-232-4357) or 211 on behalf of their elderly uncle who is in need of addiction treatment. The uncle was previously referred to a short-term treatment facility by the VA, but the family understands that the best avenue for him to get help is at a long-term facility where he will have time to recover and gain the tools he needs to remain sober.
Often these facilities may not be in the city or parish where the family resides, so the family has no knowledge of their existence. On this call, our Community Resource Navigator was able to connect the family with six different facilities where their uncle met all of the qualifications for assistance. From there, the family took over calling the facilities to find the best fit for their loved one to get the help that he needs.
In a time where all of the information in the world is at our fingertips, it is easy to get overwhelmed and not know where to start - especially in times of crisis. That is where 232-Help comes in. With one call and a friendly conversation, our Community Resource Navigators can sift through all of the available options and find the ones best suited for our callers.
232-Help. It’s more than just a phone number.
