The Jewell P. Lowe Humanitarian Award is given to a person(s) who embodies the true meaning of the word humanitarian: a person who promotes human welfare and works to make other people’s lives better. Ms. Lowe devoted every bit of her time, talent and resources to improving life for the people of Acadiana.
In 1988, 232-HELP recognized that there was a significant unmet need for dental treatment for the elderly, disabled and medically compromised. These clients fall into a “gray area” who cannot afford regular dental visits and with limited public assistance chronic oral health problems are not addressed.
Navigating the social service maze can be difficult and frustrating for a family or person in distress. And, there is no guarantee that the services one locates will be the one to meet their need. 232-HELP/LA 211 acts as a friend, a caring neighbor, a guide.
Medical appliances are expensive and most are not covered by Medicaid, Medicare and even some private insurance programs. When there is no other resource available, 232-HELP’s Medical Appliance Loan Program can provide wheelchairs, crutches, walkers and other medical appliances to eligible individuals.
Project Rx provides prescription medications for those who have no other means to obtain the much needed medications. Individuals are screened by our Information & Referral specialists, and once your specific needs are determined, assistance begins.
