Apply
for DSS Assistance
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, offers longer-term food assistance by way of an Electronic Benefits Card (EBT) that recipients can use to purchase foods for the household to eat, such as breads and cereals; fruits and vegetables; meats, fish and poultry; and dairy products or to purchase seeds and plants which produce food for the household to eat. In some areas, restaurants can be authorized to accept regular SNAP benefits from qualified homeless, elderly, or disabled people in exchange for low-cost meals. DSS recently issued an emergency rule that excludes lump sum insurance payments, payments from BP other than wages and business accounts from being counted toward an applicant’s resources.
DSS currently operates several SNAP Outreach centers in coastal parishes.
SNAP Outreach sites are open Monday through Friday and are evaluated daily.

BP Claims Process Manual
BP’s document that describes the claims process established to take and process legitimate claims arising from the Deepwater Horizon Incident.
Natural Resource Damage Assessment
The goal of the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) process under the Oil Pollution Act and the Louisiana Oil Spill Prevention and Response Act is to compensate the public for injuries to natural resources and their services as a result of an incident. Federal and State trustees act on behalf of the public to return natural resources and services to the condition they would have been in if the incident had not occurred, and to obtain compensation for interim losses of such natural resources and services through the restoration, rehabilitation, replacement or acquisition of equivalent natural resources and/or services.
Impact and Needs Assessment – Request for Information
Below is a general scope of work for a potential needs assessment
to be conducted in response to the oil spill and the need for local
communities and the organizations that serve them to have timely,
accurate information on the short and long term impact of the spill.
Please share this with appropriate contacts that may have the capacity
and willingness to take on such a project. This is an initial attempt to
gain an understanding of the potential cost and means available to
conduct this assessment. This is not a formal RFP or Solicitation.
Responses are due from interested organizations by close of business on
Wednesday, June 9, 2010.
